Years teaching at ATYP
Hey, I'm Marika!

My students call me "Riki"

I'm an established Broadway musical theatre performer with lead roles in Matilda The Musical, Come From Away, Dear Evan Hansen, South Pacific, and more.

But my real love? Watching kids who used to freeze at auditions walk onto stage like they own it.

I've taught at ATYP (Australian Theatre for Young People) for over a decade. I've seen what works — and it isn't scales and note-bashing.

  • Building stage confidence — not just technique
  • Understanding character deeply and authentically
  • Dealing with nerves & audition jitters head-on
  • Self-tape skills for the modern audition world
Is this right for us?

This is made for your family if…

Not every performer is the same. But these families always get results.

🌟

Your child loves the spotlight

They perform around the house, love musicals, and dream of being on stage. Now they need someone to channel that energy professionally.

😰

They freeze when it counts

Brilliant at home, but nerves take over at auditions or recitals. This is exactly the gap Marika fills — real performance confidence.

🏃‍♀️

You're a busy parent

No time for cross-town commutes to a coach who doesn't prepare them for the real world. Virtual means flexible, effective, and on your schedule.

The difference

This isn't note-bashing.
Or singing scales.

  • Generic technique that ignores what happens inside a child's head when the pressure is on
  • Coaches who've never stepped onto a professional stage
  • In-person sessions that eat your Tuesday afternoons
  • I build performance confidence — the mental toolkit that makes talent show up under pressure
  • Giving her the tools to handle rejection at 12 makes her a powerhouse at 22
💻

Why virtual works better

  • 🏠 In their bedroom = maximum comfort to take risks
  • 🎥 Self-tape skills built in — most auditions are now virtual
  • 🚗 No commute for you. Ever. Book and done.
  • Flexible scheduling that fits your life, not against it
  • 🌏 World-class Broadway coaching, wherever you are

Students who transformed.

Don't take our word for it.

Got questions?

Everything you're wondering.

What does ongoing coaching cost after the intro? +
Regular coaching is $75/session — but only for the first 15 spots. Once those fill, pricing moves to $100. So booking now isn't just a smart move for your child, it locks in the lower rate too.
How long are sessions? +
The introductory session is 30 minutes — just enough to get a feel for each other and have some fun. Regular coaching sessions are a full hour.
How quickly will we see results? +
Honestly? After just a few lessons. If your child doesn't walk away feeling noticeably more powerful and confident, I haven't done my job. That's not marketing — it's just what happens when the approach is right.
Is there a set curriculum? +
Nope — and that's intentional. I keep lessons fun, spontaneous, and completely tailored. Your child can bring songs they already love, or I'll suggest options — I have an enormous library to draw from. All we need is a backing track (I have thousands!) and we're off. One thing to note: I don't teach music reading. This is performance coaching — presence, confidence, character — not theory.
Can parents watch the sessions? +
Absolutely — you're welcome to check in any time. That said, I find kids open up most when it's just the two of us, free from those loving-but-watchful eyes! We'll save the audience for our "concerts" once they're ready to show off. 🎭
What platform do you use? +
Google Meet — simple, reliable, and works on any device.
Is this only for the USA? +
Not at all! Virtual lessons mean I can work with you wherever you are in the world. I currently have students across multiple countries.
My child needs acting help more than singing — is that okay? +
Perfect, actually. I'm a trained actor first — who can also sing. I find it's the acting instinct that gives singers their X factor. Whether it's stage presence, character work, audition technique, or just owning the room — I've got you covered.
What ages do you coach? +
Students aged 8 and up get the most from my sessions. I coach through middle school, high school, and into college audition prep — including Broadway, West End, and Australian professional musical auditions.
Why is virtual better than in-person? +
Most professional auditions today are virtual (self-tapes). Learning to perform to a camera is a non-negotiable skill most in-person coaches don't teach. Being in your child's home also helps them feel safe enough to take risks. And you never need to drive anywhere again.
Do you speak with parents or just the student? +
I'd love to meet you both! If your child is comfortable jumping straight in, that's great too. We can discuss long-term options via email after the intro session — whatever works for your schedule.
Is my child too young for "industry" conversations? +
Never. I don't make it scary — I make it empowering. Giving them the tools to handle rejection with their head high at 12 makes them a powerhouse at 22. Age-appropriate, confidence-first, always.
What are Marika's qualifications? +
Marika holds a Bachelor of Arts (Performance) from the University of Western Sydney — Theatre Nepean, and has taught at ATYP for over a decade. Broadway credits include Matilda, Come From Away, Dear Evan Hansen, South Pacific, and Man of La Mancha.
What if my child doesn't enjoy the lesson? +
That's the whole point of the $25 intro — no commitment, no risk. If your child doesn't feel more powerful after their lesson, I'll provide a full refund. No questions asked. 24-hour notice required for cancellations.
